Just N.Time for Fall – Crash Bandicoot™ 4: It’s About Time

It’s about time for Crash Bandicoot – the orange spin-jumping and dancing marsupial – to return in a sequel to his original trilogy, fittingly named Crash Bandicoot™ 4: It’s About Time, coming this fall to PlayStation® 4, PlayStation® 4 Pro, and the family of Xbox One devices from Microsoft, including the Xbox One X.

This is the first brand-new Crash Bandicoot game in over ten years; an epic and absurd platforming adventure completely built from the ground up, and a true successor to the original trilogy!

Yes, we’re fur real: Crash is back, and it’s about time… Or more specifically, our bandicoot is here with his friends to protect the fate of the entire space-time continuum across the multiverse!

Video Thumbnail

On October 2nd, 2020, join Crash, Coco and friends across time and space to stop Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy, and other nefarious forces from not only taking over the world, but the entire multiverse.

Here’s our 4-ward looking statement at this sequel:

The Very Model of a Modern Major Marsupial

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is the first original entry in the Crash franchise in over a decade and is a direct sequel to the original trilogy over 20 years in the making.

The core experience of what makes Crash Bandicoot games so entertaining – an intense and hilarious 3D platforming experience defined by a certain marsupial’s brash attitude – remains faithfully intact, but with a number of new twists: This includes a reimagined and updated art style, new gameplay mechanics, and innovative abilities, like being able to switch between Modern and Retro modes of play: These are all features that allow longtime fans and new players alike to enjoy Crash’s latest adventure!

You can see this reflected in the game’s reveal trailer and screenshots. Visually, Toys for Bob is introducing a fresh take on Crash, his friends, his enemies, and the landscapes around them with a new art style. While staying true to the franchise’s zany spirit, expect to see new worlds, lush vistas, and an absurd variety of enemies and hazards in a style and visual fidelity fit for the modern gaming experience.

Face Your Foes: Quantum Masks

Crash and Coco are still jumping, spinning, and wumping around as they are known for, but don’t think they’ve sat around with nary a new trick up their (lack of) sleeves!

New to Crash Bandicoot 4 are the Quantum Masks: four powerful guardians of space and time that give our heroes the power to bend the rules of reality and conquer dangerous obstacles in exciting new ways.

Out of these four masks, two are introduced within the launch trailer: Kupuna-Wa (the Time Mask), who slows down time to allow for even more precise movements, and the Ika Ika (the Gravity Mask), who allows for platforming upside down despite the regular laws of physics!

Mind Expanding: Neo Cortex Control!

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the mad man in the eternal struggle between bad science and a Bandicoot? Now you’ll get your chance!

Not only can you tackle some fiendish platforming challenges as Crash or Coco, but during your quest to save the multiverse, you’ll also control newly playable characters, like the cunning Neo Cortex, to gain alternate perspectives into how our bandicoot heroes are saving the world one shimmy dance at a time.

That’s not to mention a host of new and enhanced features, as well as larger-than-life boss battles and new platforming tricks like wall running, rail grinding, and rope swinging, that are packed into this love letter to Crash fans by Crash fans at developer Toys for Bob.

It’s About Time – A Hands-On Look at the Game

Chilling on Snow Way Out

The first experience of this hands-on look is Snow Way Out, set in the 11th Dimension circa 1954. During the demo, this level teaches basic mechanics of how to play the game. Movement, jumping, spinning, and wumping are all taught before you get into real danger.

Another mechanic taught in the level’s beginning involves a Quantum Mask known as Kupuna-Wa, AKA the Time Mask, who upon activation, slows down time on everything except Crash. Again, like moving, jumping, and spinning, there is a quick optional practice moment before the real test begins:

An exclamation point (“!”) box and four outlines of boxes appear before our bandicoot. If the “!” box is hit, the four outlines turn into real boxes for only a single second. Activate Kupuna-Wa, to expand that single second, and see if that bandicoot can smash those four crates in time to get that sweet, sweet Wumpa fruit inside.

The elements seen in previous Crash games are all here. You’ll encounter temporary platforms, TNT and Nitro Boxes, enemies that will destroy bandicoots in the wackiest ways possible, and plenty of Wumpa fruit to collect and boxes to break, both within the main path and the optional Bonus Path.

Mid-way through the level, the story progresses; Crash and Coco have caught up to the nefarious Doctor Neo Cortex in this zombie frozen fisherman village. Unfortunately, he had enough time to rig a ship for a massive explosion… And while his timing was way, way off, he at least sent ice chunks cascading down waterfalls to make these bandicoots’ lives more difficult.

And so, our heroes continue to jump, spin, and wump across platforms like before, while also using the powers of Kupuna-Wa to slow down enemy attacks or falling ice platforms for safer passage.

Shatter Time and Space with new gameplay unveiled in Crash Bandicoot™ 4: It’s About Time

Dingodile is Back… And He’s Playable!

After retiring his old ways of villainy, Dingodile settled down to live his life-long dream of owning and operating a diner… Only to have it destroyed before his very eyes, and for him to be sucked into another dimension.

Well, It’s About Time for him to find out what went wrong. In Crash 4 you’ll be able to play levels as Dingodile to alter the storytelling perspective and discover some fun new mechanics, similar to the Neo Cortex levels that have been discussed previously. Dingodile can use his vacuum gun to hover and suck up TNT crates to launch at enemies, as well as indulge in some crocodile tail-spinning fun.

Consider these fun alternative perspectives of the Bandicoot’s quest to save the multiverse… Or more importantly, Dingodile’s ill-fated diner.

Earnable Skins (er… furs?) to Show Off Your Achievements

During the original trilogy, Crash and Coco sometimes donned outfits to blend into their time period or environment, such as biker jackets for motorcycle races or scuba gear for water levels.

For It’s About Time, these fun cosmetic changes for Crash and Coco can now be earned – and used across all levels – by completing in-game challenges and earning gems.

Tomogunchi Basic Care: From Egg to Adult

Meet Tomogunchi: your new freshly hatched friend who’s the most fun to be with! Strapped to your wrist and craving almost constant attention, your very own Tomogunchi is ready to become your favorite cyber-pet in any combat zone!

Head to the Modern Warfare® Store today and purchase the Tomogunchi Bundle. Then, during your loadout selection, go to the Weapons tab, locate the Watch Select menu, and equip your new pal: The only way to feed and evolve your virtual pet is to equip it on your wrist, so put it on before you play!

In a moment, once you take to the combat zone, you’ll soon spot your critter struggling to crack open from its initial Egg form.

Over time, your egg explodes, and out of it appears the adorable Baby Tomogunchi! Assuming you can keep it alive over a period of time, the Baby grows into a Child, a Teen, and then into a full Adult. Are there multiple pet forms and options to discover?

We aren’t saying.

Which type of pet will YOU get to take care of?

Tomogunchi Tip: Need constant reassurance your Tomogunchi isn’t deceased? Then check your watch with the d-pad up, or up-arrow key and use the ‘Watch Interact’ gesture during a match. You can also preview your watch in the Watch Select menu. Consider doing this with the Tomogunchi to get a handle on the look and feel, and all of the buttons that are on the watch. Rothwynn is not responsible for any psychological stress caused by the demise of your Tomogunchi.

Don’t Let Your Pet Get Upset: Monitoring Moods and Evolution

Monitoring Your Tomogunchi’s Moods is the key to your new critter being the happiest cyber pet in all of Hackney Yard! But you can’t just ignore your Tomogunchi while capturing a Domination flag or gunning down an enemy Operator. You need to engage with your pet as you play!

Getting Emotional: Four Little Faces of Frustration

Look at your watch screen to the right of your Tomogunchi to see four little faces; these represent your pet’s emotional states: Hungry, Dirty, Unruly, and Sleepy.

If your Tomogunchi doesn’t have an emotional state active, then they should be happy as their needs are being met. Well done! However, be sure to keep them happy as their emotional appetite is insatiable!

However, if your pet isn’t smiling or appears sad, then your wanton neglect is causing your pet to fret: You need to provide for them immediately!

Feed your new friend into contentment by figuring out which emotional state you need to change. They head into combat and begin a rampage to feed your Tomogunchi; providing sustenance:

·      Hungry (first face from top) – Get Kills

·      Dirty (second face) – Win Games

·      Unruly (third face) – Earn Objective Score

·      Boredom / Sleepy (last face on bottom) – Activate Killstreaks

That’s going to cheer up your creature in no time! Unless your battles start to go badly, of course….

Oh no! Failure in the most basic of care duties results in your Tomogunchi going from happy to neutral, to sad, and finally… to the grave!

Bonus Charge: The Evolution Contribution

Now look underneath your Tomogunchi to see the “bonus charge”; the horizontal meter your pet sits on. This represents a bonus method of evolving your pet more quickly than normal

Every pet has a different way to fill the bonus charge meter – it could be Captures, Killstreaks, Plants, or Top Three Wins– and figuring out which one your pet prefers is key to keeping them both satisfied and evolving at an even-more rapid pace!

Tomogunchi Tip:Use the ‘Watch Interact’ gesture to bank bonus charges; there are benefits when you do!

Introducing the Tomogunchi Turbo

Evolve faster and in color with the Tomogunchi Turbo from Rothwynn!

Your pet can evolve to a teen over the course of a single match and ready up for the “challenge” of adulthood. Each completed challenge means a new adult evolution for your pet. Come for the challenges, stay for the charms you’ll unlock upon challenge completion.

Once you’ve got an unruly Tomogunchi Turbo teen on your hands work quickly to complete the challenges and evolve your watch to an adult. A faster evolution could also spell a faster disaster, so keep getting kills in game to feed your hungry Tomogunchi Turbo until you can successfully complete the challenges.

Adult evolution challenges can be completed in various modes for Multiplayer and Battle Royale. They range from kills, Finishing Moves, specific lethal equipment kills, collecting in-match cash, targeted in-match road rage, and more.

Don’t worry about taking a break between matches, your Tomogunchi Turbo’s health timer only starts when the next game begins.

The Tomogunchi Evolution Continues

Have YOU discovered all the Tomogunchi secrets yet?

It’s About Time Demo Available This Weekend, Return of Tawna Bandicoot, Flashback Tapes Revealed

Snow Way Out (Cortex Timeline)

The final hands-on experience is Snow Way Out. However, this timeline features Neo Cortex as the playable character!

Because It’s About Time, this alternate perspective will put you in the shoes of the villainous Dr. Neo Cortex, who can turn enemies into platforms or gelatinous cubes to bounce on. He can also dash on the ground or in mid-air to cross chasms that would otherwise send him to his doom.

Venturing along this section of the main Snow Way Out path is a completely unique and separate experience, where you’ll see just how the Doctor narrowly missed on catching those pesky Bandicoots, before going down a slightly altered, more difficult and Wumpa Fruit filled, path as Crash.

It’s About Time Available Now — Save the Multiverse in this New Original Adventure

Flashback Tapes and N. Verted Mode

Hungry for the toughest platforming challenges you can get your hands on? Scattered throughout the game, Flashback Tapes lie along various main path levels. However, you can only collect them if you can reach their location without dying. These tapes unlock Flashback levels that take Crash and Coco back in time to the ‘90s to encounter Neo Cortex’s most challenging crate puzzles.

And it gets crazier. Toys for Bob teamed up with Beenox to develop the new N. Verted mode unlocked after beating the final level in the 4th dimension. N. Verted levels mark a creative and challenging twist on the traditional mirror mode, featuring new art styles like an old timey film reel or black and white levels that Crash coats with color after every spin. These aren’t always just visual changes, either, sometimes they affect the way you replay levels in new and interesting ways.

Do it All in Style with Earnable Skins

If you’re going to restore order to the multiverse, you might as well look good while doing it. Luckily, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is packed with wacky skins to match every mood and occasion. Skins are earned by collecting gems within each level, with each level sporting its own unique skin. Players can find gems on a normal playthrough and collect additional gems when playing in N. Verted mode. Lookin’ good, marsupial.

Compete Against Friends in Bandicoot Battle

Prove your spot as top marsupial in Bandicoot Battle, a local competitive mode where two to four players can compete head to head. See who’s the fastest as you race to the finish line in Checkpoint Races or get smashing and try for the highest score in Crate Combo. If you prefer to cooperate, load up Pass N. Play and take turns progressing through levels in normal or N. Verted mode. All competitive and cooperative modes only require a single controller, so you can pass, play, and easily join in on Crash’s misadventures.
