Battle the Circle Collapse in Warzone Battle Royale

Loot, kill, and survive — these are the basics for success in Warzone’s Battle Royale. Through it all, the collapsing circle of gas suffocates stragglers and forces players into an ever-shrinking arena. Your instincts might tell you to stay as far from the gas as possible, to get to the center of the safe area, but that’s not the only strategy. You can also play the edge and use the gas to your advantage.

Even if it’s not your preferred strategy, it’s worth mastering the edge. You never know when a Contract, loot, or a fight with another squad might lead you to the fringes, so it’s a good idea to get some experience playing near it.

Read on to learn how to use the circle collapse to your advantage, and how to turn the gas from a threat into an asset.

Circle Collapse Overview

If you’re new or need a refresher, the circle collapse is the deadly gas that closes in throughout the match, forcing players into an ever-shrinking safe area. These collapses occur in waves, split between one countdown where the gas stays put and another where it closes to its new destination, indicated on the Tac Map. With each new wave the countdown shortens.

The gas inflicts periodic armor and health damage to anyone who touches it, unless the player has a Gas Mask on hand — even then, protection is only temporary.

Play the Edge

The first step toward mastering the circle is to play its edge. In your next Battle Royale match, drop right on the circle’s line, or even outside of it since you’ve got a few minutes before the first collapse. Most players drop inside the circle or in the first few zones along the flight trajectory, while dropping outside of the circle provides a bit more safety. Use that relative safety to loot up and complete a Contract to boost your early funds.

Stay near the line when the gas closes in on the first safe area. The greatest advantage of playing near the gas is the enormous cover it provides. It cuts off an entire direction from attack, reducing the number of angles you need to watch for incoming threats. As long as you pay some attention to the gas – an enemy with a Gas Mask can still flank you, after all — you’re usually safe from attack in that direction.

Grab a vehicle along the way. If there’s a lot of fighting on the edge, or if the circle collapse becomes too daunting, you can get in and drive to a safer position. Use the fast-moving ATV or Tactical Rover depending on your squad size. This is a good strategy to use at the start of a match. Drop toward a vehicle outside of the initial circle, loot up in relative safety, and then drive in closer when the first collapse begins.

And remember — always check the countdown.

Trap Your Enemies

The gas is just as deadly to the enemy as it is to you, a fact that you should use to your advantage. Always consider where you are on the map when the circle is collapsing. If you’re fighting indoors and the gas is coming, there are only so many exits toward safety. Rush outside before the enemy does, cover their most likely exit points, and wait for them to either brave it in the open against you or die to the gas.

Have a Gas Mask? Some Stims? Maybe even a Self-Revive Kit? If you’re properly equipped and the situation arises, you can move right into the gas for critical re-positioning. Say you’re on the edge fighting in Atlas Superstore, in a stalemate, or fighting across two buildings close to each other. Head right into the gas and race for the flank. Attacks from inside the gas are the least expected. Take the enemy by surprise as they search for you within the safe area.

Look Ahead with Recon Contracts

If you’re ever in doubt on where to go next, pick up a Recon Contract. Complete the contract to view the next safe area, displayed as a yellow circle on the Tac Map. This helps you develop a better strategy. Loot up and find a defensive position within the yellow circle, and then shoot down enemy players rushing toward it when the area becomes viewable to everyone.

Rushing straight to the yellow circle, however, poses some high risks. The closer you get to the center, the more enemy players you’ll likely encounter. While there’s always some risk of being spotted, the center tends to draw the most action. You can choose not to reposition into the yellow circle right away, and instead play the edge between the current safe area and the next, looking for routes where you can cut off enemy players moving in.

Tips for Mastering the Circle Collapse

1.     When you play the edge, you may want a Gas Mask. It can save you from a collapse or give you the means to flank unsuspecting enemies. If you haven’t found one on the ground or in a Supply Box, remember that you can always purchase a Gas Mask from the Buy Station, a worthy investment for its life-saving capabilities.

2.     While you’re at it, consider purchasing a Self-Revive Kit at the Buy Station. It’s essential to getting back up on your feet, for those times when you get shot down while escaping the circle collapse. It also relieves stress on your squad, who can focus on taking out the player who got you instead of racing to your rescue and making themselves vulnerable in the process. Get up, move into the safe area, and get back into the fight.

3.     Pay attention to all the entrances and exits of buildings you encounter, for your own survival and to better anticipate where enemy players might come and go. Over time you’ll start to memorize the interior layouts of different zones. If an enemy squad traps you inside when the gas is closing in, remember your parachute: head to the roof and glide to safety.

4.     Use Double Time If you enjoy playing near the gas but you don’t like having a vehicle in tow that might give up your position. Once you’ve grabbed the perk from a Loadout Drop, you’ll have double the tactical sprint duration, giving you the legs to book it when you most need to.

5.     Use the ping system when you’re grouped with a squad. A major part of playing the edge is to avoid the chaos at the center, but you have to be vigilant about the countdown for the circle collapse. Mark useful weapons and items to get your team equipped with minimal downtime.

Unlock the New Poltergeist Battle Royale Class

A new challenger has arrived! Once Upon a Time in Rust, the sixth season for Call of Duty: Mobile, introduces a new Battle Royale class — the Poltergeist. The Poltergeist deceives opponents with its cloaking device, appearing first here and then suddenly there to all but the most eagle-eyed opponents.

Read on to find out all you need to know about the new Poltergeist class, including what it offers, how to unlock it, and tips for mastering it on the way to your next victory.

Poltergeist Overview

The Poltergeist uses subterfuge and surprise to confuse opponents. Whether you need to reposition for an attack or evade an incoming threat, its Active Camo cloaking ability provides near invisibility so that you can move without giving away your position.

And you move faster while cloaked, too. The Poltergeist’s Voidwalker ability increases running and walking speed when Active Camo is up, helping you reach your destination quickly and stealthily. This is invaluable when you need to move in the open where an enemy might otherwise see you.

Taking about a minute to charge up, you’ll be able to use the Poltergeist’s Active Camo ability several times in a match. Keep in mind, though, that firing your weapon at any time immediately deactivates Active Camo, so wait to shoot until you’re ready to commit to the kill.

How to Unlock the Poltergeist Class

To access the Poltergeist, you’ll first have to prove yourself. Beginning May 21, select the Event tab and then Featured to view the tasks you must complete in order to unlock the new class. Complete the variety of Battle Royale tasks and the Poltergeist is yours.

Now let’s discuss how to best use the Poltergeist class once you’ve unlocked it.

5 Tips for Mastering the Poltergeist Class

1.     Remember that the Poltergeist’s Active Camo ability only provides near invisibility, not total invisibility. The closer you are to an enemy player while cloaked, the more likely they are to spot you. Choose your timing wisely.

2.     Looting and fighting near the edge of the circle? Save Active Camo until it starts collapsing, and then activate it when it’s time to move — just make sure you find a building or some other cover before your cloak runs out. Plus, the Voidwalker ability will increase your speed to help you outrun the circle.

3.     Use Active Camo to cloak yourself when you run into a group of enemies fighting each other. Let them inflict damage on one another while you get in position to wipe them all out.

4.     Bait the enemy. Let them see you and then take cover where they’ll come after you. Use Active Camo to make a getaway while they waste their time searching for you or to reposition and flank them as they’re distracted.

5.     We said it before and it bears repeating again: shoot your weapon and the cloak de-activates. The Poltergeist is all about the setup. Get into position, wait for the right moment, and attack.

Good luck. We’ll see you online.

Call of Duty®: Warzone Mode Recon: Battle Royale Duos

Duos is here for Warzone’s Battle Royale!

It’s you and your duo against the world, as you gather loot, complete Contracts, and slay the competition while you avoid the circle collapse that is about to engulf Verdansk.

Ready to fight? Grab your partner and prepare to drop into Battle Royale Duos in Warzone.

Duos Overview

In Duos, you and your partner drop into Verdansk with Battle Royale rules. If you are unfamiliar with Battle Royale, read our Mode Recon on it here.

You can either bring a buddy into the Warzone, or squad up with a random player. Once your duo readies up, participates in the pre-game lobby, and drops into Verdansk safely, your mission is to outlast all the other rival pairs of Operators.

If your duo goes down, you can revive them before they bleed out and lose their loadout. Doing so will save them a trip to the Gulag, where they will fight in a 1v1 to earn their right back into the game.

If they die in the Gulag, or perish when they return from it, you can still buy them back at a Buy Station.

While you loot and hunt around Verdansk, the circle collapse will limit the playable area, forcing squads to fight until only one remains. The last duo standing – even if only one of that squad is alive – wins the game.

Duos Strategies

Duos is quite possibly the ultimate test of friendship and teamwork; with only one other teammate to rely on, you’ll have to coordinate your strategies, make good callouts, and most importantly, hit your shots if your fellow Operator’s life is at stake.

One of the easiest strategies to implement in Duos is to work as a pair near each other. The term “watch my six” should become a standard part of your plans, as two Operators can easily cover 360 degrees of space by staying close and watching each other’s backs.

Having only two Operators per squad also creates a potential meta shift, as you may need to consolidate multiple roles onto one Operator using the Overkill perk. Assault rifle-sniper builds are great, but if neither of you has an answer for vehicles or a close-range battle with a shotgun, you may be in trouble.

Need more intel on some recommended Loadout archetypes? Check out the Warzone Strategy Guide here.

Speaking of trouble, it’s best to avoid entering – and losing – in the Gulag at all costs, given that if one squad member goes down, the lone survivor will most likely have to fight in multiple 2v1 scenarios in Verdansk. However, this situation isn’t impossible to get out of; sometimes, playing patiently and taking out full rival duos one enemy at a time can help you get a squad wipe as the underdog.

Finally, like all other Battle Royale modes, communication is a major key to victory. Agreeing on a landing zone, pinging and calling out loot locations or enemy movements, and reviving each other are all qualities of a good duo member.

Dysfunctional Duos are usually the first to die in Battle Royale, so don’t be a bad teammate, or you might just lose that BFF rather quickly… in Warzone only, we hope.

Top 5 Tips for Duos

5. Two Heads are Better than One. Communicate vocally – or with pings – and collaborate often with your duo to come up with winning strategies during your Duo games. If you’re lucky enough to have one, twin telepathy will come in handy here.

4. Consolidate Your Loadouts. Two players per squad means an Operator may have to fill multiple roles. The Overkill Perk can help you bring two Primary Weapons into combat through a Loadout Drop, but don’t underestimate the power of a Sidearm or Launcher.

3. Breach and Clear. Working in tandem to clear rooms – either of loot, of enemies, or both – is an effective strategy when heading into building-heavy areas of Verdansk, such as Downtown or the Zordaya Prison Complex. Just don’t get lost, lest your teammate discover your corpse with their killer waiting in the shadows as if it were a horror film.

2. 2v1? No Sweat. Although playing down an Operator isn’t ideal, it’s easy to turn the tide of a 2v1 scenario when you’re outside the Gulag. Try picking off one player, and when the other goes for the revive, finish the job and take them down too for the squad wipe.

1. Only as Strong as the Weakest Link. Winning a Duos match requires a bit more individual skill from each squad member than a Trios or Quads game. Practice your gunskill in Solos or in Modern Warfare® Multiplayer, and if your Duo isn’t pulling weight, you may have to sub them out… Just remember: it’s nothing personal.

We’ll see you online. Stay frosty.

Mobile Battle Royale Map Expansion

If you dropped into Isolated recently, you might have noticed its major expansion to the north and elsewhere.

Season Seven – Radioactive Agent – added seven new areas to Isolated, the Battle Royale map in Call of Duty: Mobile, which fundamentally changes how we explore and engage across the coastal area.

Video Thumbnail

Let’s dive into what’s new in Isolated, starting at the newest southernmost location going clockwise:

Downtown

Across the estuary to the north is Isolated’s Downtown district. Here, a few small apartment complexes, shops, restaurants, and a central dance club create an intimate city-like feel in the middle of the wide open Isolated landscape.

Items are plentiful inside each of these buildings, especially ones with multiple floors to explore. These taller buildings – including the central club – also provide ample sightlines across this area and beyond.

You can access Downtown from nearly every angle: take a quick dip in the river if you are coming from the main landmass from the west, or ride along – or alongside – the roads to the north, preferably with a ground vehicle if you want to get here fast.

If you are on the island with Nuketown, or are stranded on the smaller island north of Pier, you can take a Tactical Raft straight up to the shores just outside Downtown.

Black Market

Across a bridge from Standoff, a quiet collection of homes, stalls, and massive garage holds a savory secret: it’s the Black Market, where Isolated’s seedy underbelly does its business while hiding in plain sight.

The area lives up to its reputation: here, you’ll find plenty of loot, and while the Black Market may not always get you what you want, it may provide what you need to survive in the ensuing Battle Royale.

Of note, the main garage allows for interior fighting that may not necessarily be close-quarters engagements. Usually, those in need of a set of wheels – or air superiority – could come here to request speedy delivery of vehicles in order to aid in their mission, whatever that may be.

There are also rumors that a bunker is hidden within the Black Market. According to intel, this bunker not only tracks air traffic across Isolated, but also the movement of those who dare to try and disrupt deals that go down on the surface.

Harbor

Anchored north of Downtown and northwest of Black Market, the Harbor is a port of entry and exit to freight vehicles by sea, especially if that cargo ship is in need of maintenance.

Compared to Docks, the smaller Harbor area has two stations: one solely dedicated to repair. Currently, this station contains a ship at anchor, which can be a great loot location on par with surrounding buildings. The other station, currently inactive and not flooded with water, can pivot to maintenance if there is overflow.

Note the yellow gantry cranes above these two dry docks, as they can be used to gain a great vantage point over the area.

This Harbor was not just home to legitimate shipments; Isolated recently dealt with cargo containers full of hazardous materials, and used the Harbor in an attempt to redirect these materials away from the Docks. However, not all of these materials were disposed of properly, so be cautious around any marked barrels you find.

Sanitarium

A long-abandoned medical facility for convalescent patients, the Sanitarium is a quick dip in the river due north from the Nuclear Plant, or a short trip east from the Black Market or south of the Frigid Wetlands.

Here, there is little – if any – functional medical equipment and few beds have been left. The Sanitarium has since been abandoned for years with little care taken to it.

Those who trespassed left plenty of resources within this space, as its large interior and vista from upper levels made for a great stronghold. In general, this space sets the stage for a variety of combat scenarios in and out of the main Sanitarium.

During the Battle Royale, you may find yourself taking control of the Sanitarium, or maybe checking on the buildings surrounding it for additional loadout items or protection.

Frigid Wetlands

Bundle up for the Frigid Wetlands and the rest of the new areas in Isolated, because they are all at the foot of the snowy mountain range that acts as Isolated’s natural border.

The Frigid Wetlands is the most rural of the three snow-speckled communities, with little man-made elevation from the shacks and other small buildings. A natural tactical position is the area’s center, which is on a higher elevation and can partially block the vista across this small community.

However, don’t assume that the quaint and quiet nature of this town means it lacks resources: there is plenty of opportunity to find gear and items for your loadout, even if you have to search every nook and cranny for them.

Because it is far out from “civilization” – it’s currently the northmost area on Isolated, and is a good distance away from other named areas – it may take a while to travel in, around, within, and out of the Frigid Wetlands. This could translate to a slower pace of battle, but never expect this: on any given Battle Royale, any area can become a hot spot, and the Wetlands, despite its icy exterior, is no different.

Ski Town

Grab your skis, sleds, and snowboards for Isolated’s premier resort for extreme winter sports. The town built around this recreation destination, which welcomes in both residents and tourists for day-trips, ski weekends, or just a life away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown.

Here, the cabins and other abodes contain resources that can help you survive in these sheer cold and snow conditions, and beyond. As you head further north into the mountains, you can take advantage of the natural elevation to gain a vantage point over the town.

Unfortunately, those who land at Isolated are here for survival, not recreation, so there aren’t any skis or snowboards to get down the mountain quicker.

If you’re looking for a faster way up and down the mountain, consider finding an abandoned vehicle here or bringing your own. With or without one, be prepared for a long trek to your next point of interest: the closest one is Overgrown or the Nuclear Plant to the south, but you can also head west to the Frigid Wetlands and Sanitarium or east to this final new destination:

Heat

The easternmost new area is Heat, a small village that, contrary to its name, is in an extremely chilly climate.

Think of this as the snowy suburb bordered by a river and Ski town to the west, Overgrown to the southwest, and Sakura to the south. While a bit secluded, a good road trip or off-road adventure will bring you right back to Isolated’s busier sectors.

Just like its sister snowy zones, Heat is where you’ll find plenty of items for your loadout across numerous buildings, although there are more homes and multi-story complexes here than cabins or humble shacks.

The similarities don’t stop there: natural elevation exists within this mountainous region, which can be great to scope out your squad’s next move or see if any intruders are trespassing on this area.

Whether you land at these seven new areas or travel through them in your quest for survival, we’ll see you on the go, and online.

Unlock the New Hacker Battle Royale Class

5 Tips for Mastering the Hacker Class

1. Suspect enemies in the area? The Hacker’s Ice Pick gadget displays the number of enemy players being affected by your hack, making it a great tool both for disabling their intel and improving your own.

2. If you haven’t yet explored the latest areas added last season, the Hacker is the perfect class for doing so. Outpost and Dormitory in the north and Radar Base on the coast are particularly worth a visit, as the Hacker’s Ice Pick ability will disable enemy radar across the settlement, giving you the upper hand in hunting them down.

3. For even more disabling power, visit a chip upgrade terminal to boost your Ice Pick’s range and duration, giving you the power to shut down huge swaths of territory for 30 seconds at a time.

4. The Ice Pick isn’t just helpful in setting up an attack but can be a great tool when you need to make an escape, too. If you risk getting outnumbered by an incoming squad, activate your Ice Pick ability, hop onto a vehicle, and get out of there.

5. Remember that the Hacker’s passive Hard Wired ability keeps you off the mini-map of enemy players, making this a great class for aggressive players who like to be the first to an area. Get in, set up for incoming enemies, and take them down as they waltz in unsuspecting.

Good luck. We’ll see you online.
