Activision Blizzard Donates $2 Million to Support the Call of Duty Endowment and announces #CODEFearlessChallenge

May is National Military Appreciation Month and to honor veterans the Call of Duty Endowment is using Activision Blizzard’s recent $2 Million donation to help veterans find high-quality jobs during this trying time.

The Endowment, founded in 2009, has always sought to place veterans in high-quality jobs since its inception and considers that task more important now, than ever. This year, the Endowment has also raised funds through the Defender Pack, its #HireHonor Campaign, the Call of Duty Endowment “C.O.D.E.” Bowl, and other activations.

Now, The Endowment is taking on a new campaign – the #CODEFearlessChallenge – to honor veterans during National Military Appreciation Month.  To join in the challenge, honor a current service member or veteran by posting a photo of them on your social media to show your appreciation. Get more details on how you can take on the #CODEFearlessChallenge here.

“Activision Blizzard and Call of Duty continue to be incredibly dedicated partners in helping veterans find high quality jobs, which is harder than ever in these difficult times.  Our grantees who place vets have seen a greater than 50% increase in request for help and this campaign aims to support that need.”

This month, as part of #CODEFearlessChallenge, the Endowment will release the ‘Fearless Pack’ for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® and Call of Duty®: Warzone. The pack was created with the help of a distinguished military veteran and will assist the Endowment in its initiative to get veterans back to work. 100% of Activision’s net proceeds from the ‘Fearless Pack’ will go to the Call of Duty Endowment.

If you are (or know someone who is) a veteran, transitioning service member, or service leaver requiring assistance in looking for employment in the U.S. or U.K., then visit the Veteran Support section of the Call of Duty Endowment website to be paired with a partner organization who can help in the job search.

Full Details on the Fearless Pack

This pack was created in partnership with and inspired by the combat service of Medal of Honor recipient CPT Florent “Flo” Groberg. Born in France, Flo and his family moved to America when he was a teenager and he became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2001.

The Fearless Pack includes a total of 10 in-game digital items:

Venerated Mil-Sim Operator Skin – Inspired by the brave men and woman who serve the United States, this Mil-Sim skin is ready for the combat zone.

For the Cause Assault Rifle Blueprint – This blueprint kits the weapon to make it an absolute force in close to medium range engagements. The five attachments included are the Scout Combat Optic, which provides a precision sight picture, the Corvus Custom Marksman Barrel, which increases damage range and recoil control, and a trio of attachments that boost aim down sight speed: the FORGE TAC SQS Stock, the Tac Laser, and the Stippled Grip Tape. The rifle is engraved with the date of the event of CPT Flo Groberg’s Medal of Honor actions to honor his fallen comrades.

Steadfast Watch– Check the time with an in-game watch. The watch sports the Endowment’s logo on the nylon strap.

Stand Out Weapon Camo – Equip the special weapon camo to make any weapon stand out – literally – in your armory.

Orange Boonie Weapon Charm– Add an additional flair to your gunplay with the unique weapon charm, which should remind you to always check those corners.

Calling Cards (2) – Demonstrate your veteran support with either of these animated calling cards. Equip calling cards in Identity within the Barracks menu.

Emblems (2) – Personalize your identity with two Call of Duty Endowment emblems, both of which are animated.

Spray – Want to spray your support in-game? Rep the Endowment and leave your mark wherever your Multiplayer battle takes you with a spray that features the Call of Duty Endowment logo.

Interview with “Fearless Pack” Inspiration and Medal of Honor Recipient Captain Florent “Flo” Groberg

In honor of National Military Appreciation Month, we sat down with CPT Florent “Flo” Groberg to talk about his time serving the United States and about the Fearless Pack he helped design for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:

Activision Games Blog (AGB): Thank you for your service. Where, when, and how long were you deployed? What did you do?

CPT Florent “Flo” Groberg (FLO): I was deployed to Afghanistan twice. My first tour was in 2009-2010, and I was in in the Eastern Province of Kunar at COP Honaker-Miracle on the Pech River. I left in December and came back in June of 2010.

My second deployment was again in Afghanistan, but this time in Jalalabad within the Nangarhar Province, and that was in 2012. I left in January of 2012 and I came back in a different state in August of that year.

The two tours were different. My first tour I led a platoon – Dagger Company 4th Battalion out of Delta Company. We were in this little combat outpost with 90 soldiers total – two different platoons – and I had 24 men under my command.

During my second tour, I ran a personal security detail for the Brigade Commander of Eastern Afghanistan. My job was to protect him; I travelled to 45 different outstations across the country with my group of six individuals.

We had to trust each other and take care of each other – we had to be one organism, thinking and reacting the same way. On August 8, 2012, there was a pure example of a group of individuals who trained, lived, banded, and bonded together – who reacted to a threat together – with the same mindset and end state to eliminate a threat and protect the principles.

Though we lost four incredible Americans, we were able to secure the outpost, defeat the enemy, and bring some of our soldiers home.

AGB: What happened on August 8, 2012?

FLO: We landed at this combat outpost, and I had a heavy package of senior leaders in the military as well as the government. From that gate to the Governor’s Compound, where they had a meeting, is 1,100 meters.

My job was to put the principles – the main leaders – inside a diamond formation to protect them when we walked that route. Unfortunately, that day, we had too many high-ranking Colonels and Afghan Generals, so we couldn’t put everyone there, and we didn’t have an additional security element.

The entire time during that walk, we were looking for fishy things, and one of the things we noticed is that it was very quiet. Nobody was in the streets, until randomly, after 400 meters of walking, we saw a car come out of nowhere and we stopped.

Everything was eerily quiet – I’ve been in over 200 firefights my whole life, and you just know something bad is about to happen – and you have to pay attention to everything around them. And that’s what we did: 700 meters into that movement, we saw motorcycles come at full speed towards us.

That’s what killed the four guys. The craziest part is that I lived – I had a bomb blow up at my feet – but one Major, who wanted to cover our rear and was 30 feet away, was killed by shrapnel.

AGB: What is your mission now that you’re a civilian?

FLO: My purpose in life is to do something good for someone else.

Whether that’s saying “thank you” to a waiter or supporting one of the best nonprofit organizations in the country to help the men and women who served our nation and their families, I need to make sure I’m doing something positive that doesn’t benefit me.

People died for me – people made the ultimate sacrifice – and for me, it’s an opportunity – a duty – to make sure I earn it, pay it forward, and that I stop thinking about myself. I learned all that on August 8, 2012, because in eight seconds, my life completely changed, and earning the Medal of Honor gave me the platform and opportunity to help our community.

Announcing the Call of Duty Endowment [C.O.D.E.] Bowl IV Presented by USAA on October 5

Announcing C.O.D.E. Bowl 2023, Presented by USAA

Prepare for another epic C.O.D.E. Bowl IV, taking place on Oct. 5, 2023! Following the Royal Air Force’s comeback victory last year, it’s time for a new champion to emerge as military esports teams from the U.S., U.K., and — for the first time ever — Canada join top Call of Duty® streamers to compete for the coveted trophy and bragging rights for the winning team’s military branch of service.

Presented by USAA, C.O.D.E. Bowl IV celebrates the Endowment’s commitment to placing veterans into high-quality jobs, with over 118,000 placements since 2009.

The winning team will take home the C.O.D.E. Bowl Trophy, and 100% of the net proceeds from the tournament will go toward placing more veterans into high-quality jobs.

Every Major Announcement and Call of Duty Endowment (C.O.D.E.) Bowl IV [UPDATING]

As with Modern Warfare III’s Multiplayer, Call of Duty: Warzone will also feature changes to movement and combat mechanics, compared to the current iteration of Warzone:

  • Cancel a slide by jumping or crouching again. This does not reset the Tactical Sprint. Operators begin sliding more quickly, slide farther, and can shoot in Tac-Stance while sliding. You can also ADS while sliding. The speed penalty for successive slides has also been decreased.
  • Jump higher, faster, and ADS while jumping more quickly. Reduced slowdown when landing from a jump and reduced sprint-out delay after jumping.
  • Toggle on Tac-Stance for a hybrid of hip-firing and ADS, granting faster strafe and movement speed with a penalty to accuracy.
  • Use the ‘Stim’ Tactical item to give yourself a short movement speed increase to help evade an encounter.

Call of Duty: Warzone Operators have a base health of 150, allowing players to react and reposition during skirmishes.

UI Updates

A new chapter of Warzone represents an opportunity for the return of some of the most-loved User Interface updates that Warzone has had over the years.

Classic Mini-Map: The classic minimap that includes red dots will return, offering similar intel to the one available in Multiplayer, giving players something new to consider when building their Loadout with suppressors.

Weapon and Loot Rarity: To help players loot up in the heat of combat, weapon and loot rarity has returned – including a unique colour for ‘Custom Weapons’.

Dedicated Ammo Slots: Players will now be able to carry each ammo type in dedicated inventory slots, and can still use the Backpack to carry more in excess if they wish.

Quality of Life Updates

It wouldn’t be a new chapter of Warzone without a suite of improvements to the core gameplay, and importantly this upcoming year will carry forward ALL the current Quality of Life updates to Warzone.

Gas Mask Animation: The Gas Mask is now automatically worn when equipped into your Loadout. It can be manually unequipped and stowed away in the Backpack or dropped in moments when battling in the closing gas.

Dedicated Pistol Sidearm: In certain situations, such as swimming and climbing ladders, the player will now always equip a dedicated pistol sidearm to be able to engage in armed combat to keep fights fair and balanced at all times.

Updated Contracts: Contracts are now easier to find in the world thanks to a new Laptop item, combined with all new rewards and smaller Quality of Life improvements to each Contract type.

Improved Circle Pacing

The density of Urzikstan warranted a need to revisit the pacing and sizing of the gas circles, so with the upcoming Warzone experience you can expect a faster-paced Battle Royale to get to the action sooner.
